It is a harmonious cuvée in which the luminous notes of Chardonnay are perfectly complemented by Champagne’s two red grape varieties, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
AN ENDURING HERITAGE
The ancestry of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut can be traced back to 1846, when – in response to the preference of British connoisseurs for a drier taste – Maison Perrier-Jouët launched its historic Cuvée K, the world’s first lightly dosed champagne in the style today known as “brut”. According to the House cellar books, Cuvée K was dosed at a sugar level of less than 5% – daringly little for an era when champagnes regularly contained up to 40%. Maison Perrier-Jouët became renowned for its brut champagnes, which it was able to produce owing to the fact that its high-quality grapes required very little added sugar – a philosophy maintained to this day. Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut is the heir to this tradition, and the initiator of the famed Perrier-Jouët style. Cellar Master Hervé Deschamps selects the finest wines from around 50 different crus, expertly blending each cru, as well as a percentage of reserve wines, to replicate the style and quality of the cuvée year after year. The crus are selected in function of the House’s signature Chardonnay grape, whose elegance is enhanced in the final, complex blend by the structure of Pinot Noir, predominantly sourced from the north of the Montagne de Reims, and the fullness and harmony of Pinot Meunier from the Vallée de la Marne.

In June 2019, Maison Perrier-Jouët took over the extraordinary rooftop setting of Le Dernier Étage in Paris. The House presented a lively and varied programme of events that expanded the dialogue between champagne and cuisine, revolving around nature. Throughout the week, “Akrame’s Table” proposed a harmonious encounter between Akrame Benallal’s gastronomy and Perrier-Jouët cuvées, which were paired with dedicated dishes based on the unique aromas of each one, revealed by Cellar Master Hervé Deschamps during exclusive tastings.

Beijing-born photographer Chen Man made her name on the international fashion photography scene in the early millennium. As well as her inherent creativity, she has been hugely influential in paving the way for Chinese models to go global. Her signature, pared-back style reflects the innovation of the Art Nouveau movement by combining traditional art forms with the latest digital techniques to create harmonious images that delicately and deftly explore vital subjects, with nature as a primary source of inspiration.

In the essential setting of Epernay, Chen Man was invited to capture over 200 years of Maison Perrier-Jouët’s traditions and savoir-faire, which she interprets as “a process of taking wisdom and inspirations from nature”. Inspired by the interplay of light, shadow and colour, her original compositions invite the viewer on a unique voyage into the heart of the Perrier-Jouët vineyards and cellars of the Maison Belle Epoque. This singular, contemporary vision re-enchanted guests of EDEN Shanghai, where the series was revealed in 2019.

In Shanghai, between 8th November and 7th December 2019, Maison Perrier-Jouët presents an experiential journey inspired by reinvented nature, enriched by the creative freedom of its Artisans of the Wild.
Maison Perrier-Jouët has asserted a singular vision of the world since its very foundation, inspired by the free spirit of its founders and the Art Nouveau movement. This vision is centred around creative liberty and an unconventional observation of nature - extravagant, vibrant, unbridled nature that informs everything the House does. To spread the magnetism of Art of the Wild, the House has assembled an international community of creative talents called Artisans of the Wild, who embody this unique energy.
Over the course of a month, Maison Perrier-Jouët will occupy an elegant address in the Xintiangi neighbourhood, where experiences and events offered by different Artisans of the Wild will take place day and night.

At Maison Perrier-Jouët, the history of champagne began over 200 years ago. The House was founded by two independent-minded free spirits who shared a passion for art and nature – and a bold vision for champagne. The House has stayed true to this founding philosophy of creative freedom and an unconventional observation of nature ever since.
Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adélaïde Jouët shared a love of nature and the arts. She was a cultured young woman from a Norman merchant family; she is also a masterful vintner and botanist. A year after their wedding, in 1811 they founded Maison Perrier-Jouët: born of their desire to create a Champagne House with a difference.

The destiny of Maison Perrier-Jouët has always been shaped by audacious choices, starting with the founders’ decision to make the Chardonnay grape the signature of the House, pioneering the intricate, floral style for which its famous champagne is recognised throughout the world.
Perrier-Jouët champagne is instantly identifiable for its distinctive intricate, floral style: on the nose, the captivating floral freshness and finesse of the House’s signature Chardonnay; on the palate, richness and complexity as – thanks to the cellar master’s knowledge of the terroir – meticulously selected individual crus are blended into an elegant, harmonious whole. Combined with Champagne’s two red grape varieties, Pinot Noir and Meunier, Chardonnay is a lively, luminous presence. But the purest expression of Chardonnay is naturally to be found in the two single-grape cuvées: classic Perrier-Jouët Blanc de Blancs and vintage Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs.

The founders’ passion for art, nature and champagne has been passed down through the generations. Their son Charles Perrier, a botanist like his father, took over the House in 1848. The family philosophy of creative freedom and an unconventional observation of nature is intrinsic to the history of champagne. These values shape Maison Perrier-Jouët to this day.
Thanks to a legacy of continuity, Maison Perrier-Jouët has acquired unparalleled expertise in revealing the essence of Chardonnay. Remarkably, Hervé Deschamps is only the seventh cellar master at the Champagne House in over 200 years. He will in turn transmit his expertise to his successor, Séverine Frerson, the House’s first female cellar master.

Maison Perrier-Jouët's affinity with the Art Nouveau movement is best expressed by the emblematic anemone motif illustrated for the House in 1902 by Emile Gallé. Today, the House's enduring bond with art and nature translates to an extravagant universe it calls Art of the Wild, which reinvents luxury as a meaningful experience with artistic collaborations.
